Seed Bombs

Now is the time to start preparing your seed bombs. Take 2 parts of compost and 1 part of clay and your chosen seeds. I would choose a mix of water wise, colourful shrubs and ground covers to brighten up ugly areas that you often drive past. Mix in some water and and form into bombs. Dry slowly, out of the sun and start planning your bombing sites. I would wait until after the first rains before distributing them. Enjoy the fruit of your labour when they germinate and ultimately when they flower. They will be a joy to birds, bees and fellow travellers.

Pesticide using onion skins.

Save all your onion skins in the freezer until you have sufficient. Bring about 2 L of water to the boil and put the onion skins into the water. Once this has cooled, it can be put into a bucket and left in a warm spot for a week. Strain off the liquid and add some liquid soap and spray plants to prevent aphid attacks. Bury the bits of onion skin around the plants.

This spray is effective against aphids. Bring 4 cups of water to the boil and add 1 cup of fresh basil leaves. Bring to the boil again and then leave to steep with the lid on. When cold, strain and put into the spray bottle along with 1 teaspoon of liquid detergent. Spray both the top and the under surfaces of the leaves.

Tomato Leaf Pesticide

Tomato leaves are poisonous so do handle them with care while preparing this brew and don't use it to spray on vegetables or fruit in the garden. Crush tomato leaves and soak these in boiling water overnight or for a few days. Rinse and spray on grasshoppers and white fly.
