1. Fallen leaves should be left where they fall so that they will make leaf mould. If they are gathered up they can be put into the compost heap.
2. Mulch your garden with bark chips, leaves or manure to keep the soil moist and the roots warm for winter.
3. Turn your compost heap to aerate and add water to speed up the process.
4. Stake your young trees securely.
5. Harvest veld grass so that you can cover the base of young trees to prevent frost damage in the winter.
